Holiday Gift Guide #5: Self-Care For the Seriously Stressed

self-careThe idea for the fifth and final installment in this year’s Holiday Gift Guide comes to us from my wonderful friend Claire!! She suggested a soothing round-up of self-care gifts and…what was my first thought when I saw said suggestion??

“Why, yessss!!! Isn’t that the one thing that everybody needs right about now?”

It’s so true, isn’t it? I don’t know if it’s just because it’s the end of the year and winter is making everything dark and gloomy, but I’m feeling the ever-growing need to just hunker down at home — with my adorable cats, of course! And like I’m always telling my mom, there’s nothing wrong with taking some time to rest and recharge those batteries! To calm your mind, body, soul and spirit! To…just…be.

Ahhh, sounds so calming and peaceful, doesn’t it??? To encourage your loved ones to take a little R&R over the holiday break, here are eight self-care finds that might entice them, starting with some crystal bar soaps (prices vary) to bring some healing energy to shower time…

self-careA meditation kit to begin the path to zen, $58.80

self-careThese gemstone-adorned reusable straws for a new, futuristic hydrating experience, $40

self-careTwo words: Quilted slippers, $39 (need I say more??)

self-careThis winter solstice candle for warming those cold nights, $12.60

A personalized journal for jotting down life’s joys — and fear and dreams and…everything, $13.50

Some mini succulents to brighten any space — and mind, $25

And, of course I saved the best for last…four pretty crystals in a pretty box for keeping the energy flowing all year long, $30

Here’s to feeling calm and relaxed, friends!!! Maybe you even found something that speaks to you to among these treasures… xoxo

Holiday Gift Guide #3: For the Ultimate Bagel Connoisseur

BagelI love bagels, but then again, that’s no secret. I could probably eat a bagel every day for the rest of my life and be perfectly content. I like my bagels like I like my life — plain, simple and uncomplicated. Nothing fancy for this gal. There’s something to be said for simplicity, don’t you think, friends??

When I came across this adorable plush for extra comfort ($43.99), I realized something pretty extraordinary: There are far more things to love about bagels than the actual food itself! Can you believe it??? I mean, isn’t that just the best thing EVER??

Here are eight more perfect gifts for the bagel fanatic in your life…

BagelThis necklace, which just might make the biggest fashion statement of the year, $14.95

BagelA throw pillow to proclaim devotion to your favorite carb, $26.39

Bagel BagelTwo cute enamel pins so they can wear their love for bagels on their sleeve (err, shirt…or bag), $10 each

BagelA funny mug just so there’s no misunderstanding about how you feel when it comes to bagels, $15.95

Socks that just scream quirky and cool, $9

Holiday Gift Guide #2: Home State Pride

Home StateI thought of the idea for today’s gift round-up over the weekend and I said to myself, “This just might be the most random Holiday Gift Guide ever, Melissa! Home state pride?”

But you know what? It’s too good — and unique — to pass up! So what do I mean by home state pride, you ask?? Well, you know that I’m a huge hometown girl. I love my hometown with every fiber of my being — it’s the place that’s made me who I am and the only place on the entire planet where I feel completely at, well, home. My hometown and I…? We just fit together. Perfectly, might I add. And since most hometowns don’t have their own merch line (what’s up with that??), I figure the next best thing is love for your home state!! As you can probably imagine, I’m a huge fan of Illinois and the Midwest in general — but especially Illinois! Maybe you feel the same way about the state you live in. Maybe you love the sunshine and sandy beaches of California. Perhaps you’re a Georgia peach. Or maybe those lighthouses in Maine make your heart sing and calm your soul.

Wherever you call home, there are endless gifts out there to help you show your home state pride!! First up: These pretty necklaces (starting at $25.60) to keep home close to the heart always…

Home StateA cutting board for preparing your favorite food — bonus points if the food on the board is actually from that state (because that’s totally meta!), $19.99

Home StateThis soothing candle that smells like home, $29.95

Home StateA map pillow for daydreaming about your favorite place, $35

Home StateA personalized mug for your favorite local brew, $15

Home StateThis ring dish for storing all kinds of precious treasures, $10.10

Some wall art that would brighten up any space, $14.95

…or, a wall calendar to feel that home state pride all year long, $19.20

P.S. More state love, like return address stamps, prints and the most popular baby names by state.

Feminist FashionIt’s here!! It’s here!! I’m so excited to start this year’s Holiday Gift Guide today, friends!!! This annual tradition is something I started way back in 2011 and I look forward to it every year! At the very least, it makes the cold winter months just a little bit more bearable!! In past years, I’ve featured all types of categories — everything from gifts for moms, dads, siblings and even an entire round-up of Taco Bell merch because, umm, who doesn’t want to display their love of Taco Bell to the whole world?? I’ve got some fun categories planned for this year too, starting with…feminist fashion for that style icon in your life!! I’m proclaiming 2019 the Year of the Mighty, Roaring Feminist! Case in point: This empowering sweatshirt ($33) to ward off those smile insults…

Feminist FashionA calendar full of inspiring quotes to last 365 days, $11.61

Feminist FashionThis card case to show off her (or his) resilience in life, $9.99

Feminist FashionThis Wonder Woman enamel pin to wear every day for fearlessness, $11.71

Feminist FashionGet your coloring on with a feminist activity book — educational AND creative, $6.79

Feminist FashionAn RBG mug for that morning cup of coffee — or Diet Coke, $18.50

This cuff because we all know that the future IS feminist, $35

A set of four refrigerator magnets to remind everyone that a woman’s place IS NOT in the kitchen, $9.99

P.S. Here are some past gift guides for even more gift-giving inspiration and excitement, including more feminist fashion, of course!! xoxo
