In Which I Muse on Dixie Cups (Really!)

Dixie CupsNo, that title is not clickbait. And, no, you have not fallen down some psychedelic rabbit hole. I’ve honestly found inspiration in Dixie Cups! Just hear me out…

Over the weekend, I sort of slipped back into that annoying sleep cycle where I stay up too late and sleep far too late the next morning. I hate it, but my body seems to like it, apparently — ahhh, the life of a frustrated writer! Anyway, it was Sunday morning. Well, OK, it was more like 1 p.m. (I only know the time because of the timestamp on my camera roll), I’d just risen from under my warm, cocoon-like blankets and my hair was standing up all over the place — yes, that’s the top of my head you can see in the photos. Still half asleep, I rolled into the bathroom and began going through the routine.

Toothpaste? Check. Toothbrush? Check. Dixie Cups? Check.

But, wait, what was this glorious scribble on said Dixie Cups? I’d never seen cups like this before; I was used to the plain old boring kind — you know, the kind that aren’t anything special, but they get the job done nonetheless. As the famous saying goes, “form follows function.” The plain cups may be, well, plain, but they served their function.

Dixie CupsSo when these new cups waltzed into my life, I WOKE UP. Right away, actually. The designs were in vibrant colors, full of deep blues and pinks. The fonts reminded me of those old Batman episodes that featured lots of “POW” and “BAM” during the pivotal fight scenes.

And what was written on the cups, you wonder? Oh, just the most inspirational phrases EVER. Phrases like…

Good vibes only

Enjoy the little things

Don’t quit your day dream

Do more of what makes YOU happy

These Dixie Cups were exactly what I needed to see. The fact is, I’ve never felt more seen or more motivated while brushing my teeth! It’s the sort of “GO GET ‘EM” motivation that makes me want to conquer the day — or, at least what’s left of it! I literally sat there for a good five minutes going through the cups and reading all the different motivational sayings.

Dixie CupsI seem to be the only one in my household moved by these cups because when I told my mom and Janelle how cool they were and that I was going to write an entire blog post about them, they both just looked at me like “Ummm, OK…”

But, seriously, who wouldn’t want to wake up to these sorts of affirmations every day of the week, 365 days a year? If that’s not good marketing, then I don’t know what is! Way to go, Dixie Cups! You’ve made my days a little brighter!!! xoxo

This Mountain Ring Will Take You to New Heights

Mountain Ring Mountain RingDo you see what I did there, friends? Nice pun, huh? Seriously, though, I’m really in love with this mountain ring from Everli Jewelry and have been admiring it ever since I discovered it a few months ago!

And then today, I was looking at it again and started thinking about all the cool symbolism behind wearing such a pretty ring. We’re forced to climb so many different mountains in life — in our careers, in our relationships, when it comes to our health. So when we do scale those “mountains” and come out victorious? THAT is most definitely something to celebrate, don’t you think? Maybe I’ll buy this ring for myself at the end of the year as a reminder for everything I’ve been through, especially during the last couple years. A reminder of where I’ve been — and, of course, a reminder of just how far I can climb too.

Mountain RingWhat do you think, friends? Isn’t this mountain ring beautiful? What “mountains” have you conquered lately? Remember, YOU CAN DO IT… xoxo

P.S. Remember these gorgeous birthstone stackers?

Tell me about Stencil Revolution. What’s the inspiration behind its launch?
One of our founders started cutting stencils with a small laser cutter in his house at the end of 2016. Things took off pretty quickly and before long, it became a full-time business with nearly everyone in the family pitching in. Now we have three lasers and several employees all thanks to stencils! When you place an order, a member of our family personally cuts, packs, and ships it directly to you! We don’t outsource anything and every dollar you spend with us stays right here in the USA, helping our family and friends live a simple, purposeful life.

What do you think are the appeal of stencils, even as an adult?
They are fun and easy to use. Crafting is so popular right now, with people having a greater appreciation for handmade goods. A stencil is a quick way to turn a craft into something special without a ton of effort.

What are you top 3 tips for being creative and working with stencils?
1. Always make sure the stencil is firmly pressed down when painting
2. Use a very light amount of paint on your brush or roller. Off load as much paint as possible onto your tray or a paper towel to avoid bleed.
3. Avoid using spray paint if you want the cleanest results.

What is your favorite piece in your shop and why?
The world map stencil is my favorite! I love how versatile it is, it’s also very popular.

Stencil RevolutionThank you for sharing your story, Emily!! Be sure to visit Cherry Laurel Studio and check out these shops for more inspiration too! xoxo

Spring Print Giveaway!

Spring Print Giveaway Spring Print GiveawayI’m *so* excited for today’s spring print giveaway, friends! A few months ago, I introduced you to Elizabeth and her amazing shop Cherry Laurel Studio! The design and letterpress studio features greeting cards, prints and gifts — everything from birthdays to graduations to parenthood to sympathy to even thank-yous. I love that everything is printed by hand in Georgia!

Today, Elizabeth is giving this pretty spring print to one lucky reader! The print features a wonderful quote from Audrey Hepburn (“To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow“), in both script and hand-styled type, and the quote is surrounded by a mix of ferns and other plants. Plus, I love how the green paper just screams spring, don’t you?

As Elizabeth says of the print: “Audrey Hepburn and gardening are a perfect match—and this print, a quote of hers framed by ferns and botanika, is perfect for gardening season or those times when we are simply wistfully thinking and dreaming of spring.”

Spring Print Giveaway!
We’ll be using Gleam this time around for entering. For your chance to win, simply visit Cherry Laurel Studio, and leave a comment below telling us where you’d display this pretty print. See above for LOTS of extra chances to win. A winner will be chosen at random on Wednesday, May 30th, so you’ve got two weeks to enter. Have fun, friends! xoxo

Update: Congrats to winner Nancy!! Thanks so much!
