An Ode to Lay’s: Taste-Testing Their New Flavors

Lay'sHere’s something that you might not know about me: I’m a potato chips girl. Totally and completely and unabashedly. Yes, I’m not at all ashamed to declare my love for the salty snack!! You can have your cakes and your cookies and your crumpets, but when it comes to potato chips?? Well, let’s just say that I’ll take THEM ALL, please!! That’s why I was so excited when world-famous brand Lay’s reached out to me about their new flavors for 2020.

Spoiler alert: It was the perfect and most delicious way to kick off the new year!!

A couple weeks ago, Lay’s saw my cheeky tweet and sent me an email saying they’d love to send some of their new flavors my way. Less than a week later, this beautiful yellow box with the classic Lay’s logo arrived on my doorstep; I may or may not have screamed in delight (note: I totally did scream!).

Lay'sThis year, the venerable potato chip company (75+ years strong!) is releasing three new flavors to satiate our taste buds: Cheddar Jalapeño, Poppables Sea Salt & Vinegar and Kettle Cooked Flamin’ Hot. They seem to have all the bases covered — cheesy, salty and spicy!! I mean, there’s something for everyone, right??

All three flavors are out now, so to celebrate, I recruited my mom for a little taste-testing review and mini photo shoot fun! We got to try Cheddar Jalapeño and Kettle Cooked Flamin’ Hot and I wasn’t sure what to expect, especially with the flavor of flamin’ hot. But let me tell you, I wasn’t disappointed.

Lay'sI first tried Cheddar Jalapeño! Truth be told, they practically had me at the word “cheddar” because we all know that cheese makes everything better! Cheese has invigorated everything from bread (hello, grilled cheese!) to eggs (hello, omelettes!), so I was pretty sure that the same would be true with potato chips. And, boy, was I right! The chips tasted cheesy with a hint of spicy goodness, but it wasn’t an overpowering spicy. It was the kind of spicy that made you perk your head up and take notice — as in, “Oh, that’s spicy, isn’t it?”

Lay'sWhen we tried Kettle Cooked Flamin’ Hot, my mom could only take one bite before she proclaimed that they were too hot and spicy for her. Maybe the deep red hue of the chip should have tipped me off, but I went all in anyway, crunching half the chip in one bit. I was expecting a fire alarm to go off in my mouth, but surprisingly, it wasn’t too bad. I’ve had some very unfortunate experiences with Flamin’ Hot Cheetos in the past and I definitely didn’t want a repeat of that again! So I’m proud to announce that I managed to eat two chips before the heat kicked in! It’s a new record for me!!

Plus, as a self-proclaimed Selfie Queen, I love the new Smile With Lay’s campaign, which is all about showcasing those who make us smile! You can nominate yourself or someone in your community and they could be featured on a Lay’s bag this year! How cool is that??? Spreading the love…one bag at a time!!!

Lay'sThanks so much, Lay’s!! I had so much fun snacking on these new flavors!! Have you tried them yet, friends? What’s your all-time favorite potato chip flavor?? I’d love to hear!!! xoxo

(This post is sponsored by Lay’s, though all opinions are mine. Thanks so much for continuing to support So About What I Said’s wonderful sponsors!)

Holiday Gift Guide #3: For the Ultimate Bagel Connoisseur

BagelI love bagels, but then again, that’s no secret. I could probably eat a bagel every day for the rest of my life and be perfectly content. I like my bagels like I like my life — plain, simple and uncomplicated. Nothing fancy for this gal. There’s something to be said for simplicity, don’t you think, friends??

When I came across this adorable plush for extra comfort ($43.99), I realized something pretty extraordinary: There are far more things to love about bagels than the actual food itself! Can you believe it??? I mean, isn’t that just the best thing EVER??

Here are eight more perfect gifts for the bagel fanatic in your life…

BagelThis necklace, which just might make the biggest fashion statement of the year, $14.95

BagelA throw pillow to proclaim devotion to your favorite carb, $26.39

Bagel BagelTwo cute enamel pins so they can wear their love for bagels on their sleeve (err, shirt…or bag), $10 each

BagelA funny mug just so there’s no misunderstanding about how you feel when it comes to bagels, $15.95

Socks that just scream quirky and cool, $9

A card with a funny pun for extra laughs, $3.70

And, of course, what bagel-themed list would be complete without FOOD?!?!? When in doubt, you can’t go wrong with a gift card from world-famous Einstein Bros. In fact, it just might be the best holiday gift you could ever give someone… xoxo

P.S. The 2019 Holiday Gift Guide so far and more food fun!!!

Pumpkin Spice Ice Cream Sandwiches

Oh, don’t mind me while I get distracted by these dreamy and delicious-looking pumpkin spice ice cream sandwiches, which, even though I don’t particularly like fall, have me wishing for crunching leaves and the smell of crisp air.

Weird, no? What are you daydreaming about today, friends? xoxo

P.S. This week’s Tuesday Tunes is coming up soon! 🙂

Homemade Frosted Animal Cookies

Confession: I’m pretty obsessed with those heavily frosted animal cookies you can buy in the grocery store. OK, maybe ‘pretty’ isn’t the right word. It’s more like full-on, can’t-stop-eating-them, you-should-probably-hide-them-from me obsessed. I can’t help it, really. They remind me of childhood road trips when we’d stop at the store and pick up deli meat for dinner before going to the hotel. Naturally, I’d always slip a bag of these babies in the shopping cart.

Well, imagine my delight — and subsequent jaw-dropping — when I discovered that Adrianna from A Cozy Kitchen has created her own delicious recipe for frosted animal cookies! I love that they’re bite-sized and of course, the pink is my favorite! I’m (dare I say it?), TICKLED PINK!!

What’s your favorite cookie or dessert these days, friends? Any treats you’d recommend? xoxo

P.S. That *BIG* surprise I mentioned on Facebook and Twitter is coming up this afternoon! 🙂

Best Take on Classic Pumpkin Pie

Everyone’s favorite Thanksgiving staple has seen plenty of reinventions over the years, like mini pumpkin pies, pumpkin pie bars and pumpkin pie fudge, but never in all my food-loving days have I seen something as glorious as this: FUNFETTI PIE CRUST!!

I’ll just let that sink in for a moment…

Perhaps even sweeter (pun intended…see what I did there?) is the funfetti whipped cream that is oh-so-generously dolloped over the top. Can’t you just imagine slicing into this deliciousness on Thanksgiving night? Ahhh, I’m sold… xoxo

P.S. The secret to Thanksgiving pies! 🙂
