Style Guide: Pale Pink

pale pink spring trendI’ve developed a Saturday morning ritual over the last couple months. As soon as the new issue of Us Weekly arrives, I immediately flip right to the style pages. Why? Because not only do I love seeing what the oh-so-fashionable celebrities of the day are wearing, but I also *love* seeing all the latest trends right before my very eyes. And this past weekend was most definitely no exception. What exactly did I learn, you wonder? That my pretty-color-loving self is 100% on board with the pale pink spring trend. I’m literally here for everything it has to offer!

Don’t believe me? Oh, just check out these top picks as proof of my undying love this special hue…pale pink spring trendRuffle-accent ballet flats, $11.99 | Denim shorts, $60 | Sleeveless sun top, $60 | Glittery sporty ankle socks, $6 | Washed cap, $18 | Quilted purse, $26 | OPI nail polish, $10 | Classic polo shirt, $39.50 | Tassel hoop earrings, $38 | Denim jean jacket, $49.99

The Wall Street Journal even heralded pink the IT color for spring, saying, “It can be suffocatingly girlie. Aggressively silly. But spring’s tougher takes on the color of the moment might just overcome your objections.”

Indeed, I love how the look has evolved from being strictly feminine — now, there’s a chic, tougher edge to it. Pretty badass, if you ask me!

So what’s the verdict, friends? What’s your take on all things pink? Would you go for this spring trend or avoid it? What’s your fave look/style/color for these warmer, sunnier months? Let’s chat, shall we? xoxo

P.S. Or, how about a fancy floral Garden Party afternoon?

Family Photos: Springtime Is My Favorite Time!

Springtime Is My Favorite TimeI’m so happy to announce…SPRING HAS SPRUNG IN THE MIDWEST! Yes, friends, it’s true! We can finally — at long last! — say goodbye to that uber crabby Old Man Winter (yeah, he was probably a classic mansplainer, too!) and say hello hug a brighter, happier, sun-filled tomorrow! Now, you may think I’m being overly dramatic and exaggerating just a wee bit, but I’m not. I’m seriously. It’s just beautiful, really. I mean, this time of year just lifts my mood completely and I feel refreshed and revived — not to mention happier and more energized. I feel like the Energizer Bunny ready to take on the world! And since it’s official and springtime is my favorite time, I just had to commemorate the occasion with some Family Photos…

Springtime Is My Favorite Time Springtime Is My Favorite TimeMy mom snapped some proof that there is FINALLY green grass and leaves on the trees!! The best part? #NoFilter

Springtime Is My Favorite TimeHow cute is she looking at the trees? She’s like a kid in a candy store!

Springtime Is My Favorite TimeHere’s a #Throwback pic of my mom. As she said on Facebook, “This is how we used to do Easter back in the day…Easter bonnet and all!” Does she remind you a little bit of Sally Draper?

Springtime Is My Favorite TimeLast week, my sister made me some special Rice Krispie treats to celebrate a writing win (more on that coming soon!) and I looove the twist she put on it: Almond frosting and sprinkles! My mouth was watering just looking at them! Thanks for the deliciousness, Sister!

Springtime Is My Favorite Time Springtime Is My Favorite TimeWe celebrated Easter with our favorite PEEPS — and, of course, some tasty chocolate too! And some Yahtzee too!

Springtime Is My Favorite TimeI’m thinking of instituting Afternoon Cocktail Time!! I did it yesterday and it was so glorious! OK, so my drink was really just Diet 7-Up and cranberry juice, but it’s SO delicious!!

Springtime Is My Favorite TimeSpoiler Alert: Coming to a blog near you next month!!!

Springtime Is My Favorite TimeAnd finally, as Miranda Sings would say…ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!? I hit 4,000 Twitter followers!!!!! Root beer for all!!! Follow me for shenanigans!!!!

So, all in all, I suppose you could say it’s been a pretty good few weeks for me! How are things in your neck of the woods? Has spring shown its beautiful face yet? Here’s hoping you’re wrapped in a blanket of sun and warmth, friends! xoxo

My New Floral Wallet For Spring

Floral Wallet For Spring Floral Wallet For SpringWell, I’ve got new shoes and I’ve got a new wheelchair…so I thought I’d just go all the way and become a new woman for 2017. How pretty is this floral wallet for spring? I ordered it from Amazon over the weekend and am looking forward to strutting (well, rolling, really…) down the sidewalk in style.

Floral Wallet For SpringTake that, Miranda Priestly! What types of wallets are your favorite, friends? What do you carry your stuff in these days? xoxo

Family Photos: Our Spring Break Staycation

our spring break staycationOh, friends! I had grand plans for today! Big ones! I was going to be a veritable power player in the writing game. I was going to slash things off my to-do list like I was a knight swinging a sword in a Medieval court. I was going to…do so much…get so much done! And then I woke up this morning and remembered just how difficult the first day back can be! So I thought I’d regal you with the wonders of our spring break staycation because I’m sure you’re dying to know all the juicy details, right?

our spring break staycationI hit ‘publish‘ on my spring break post with a huge sense of triumph and relief — my fun times were about to begin! And, boy, did they! I started my break with some Miranda Sings; I tweeted about it, of course, and look who LIKED my tweet!!! It was practically like talking to Miranda herself pretty much…

our spring break staycation our spring break staycationLast weekend, we got together with my uncle! His wife — my aunt — died last month and it was nice to see each other and spend some time telling stories and remembering what a wonderful woman my Aunt Lillian was! The fact that we went to Texas Roadhouse and upped our sodium content through peanuts? Well, that was merely a happy coincidence! And those chicken tenders? Magnificent!

our spring break staycationMy mom, of course, had to do some work around the house. Here she is changing the smoke detector…always making sure the world is safe for everyone! Thanks, Ms. Bear!

our spring break staycationWe also took my new wheelchair out for its maiden voyage walk…but it was soooooo cold AND my battery got low on the way home. But at least I got out of the house, right? #BrightSide

our spring break staycation our spring break staycationWe spent a day out on the town, which proved to be the highlight of our week. I got my hair cut, we went out to lunch for yummy Mexican food, did a bit of shopping and then ended the day by seeing Beauty and the Beast! Oh, it was such a wonderful movie and definitely did the original version justice!

our spring break staycationA little bonus: I was interviewed for our local paper about writing, my New York Times essay and life with a disability. To hear people say that they appreciate my open, honest and vulnerable voice? THIS is why I write!! I’m humbled from the bottom of my heart!!!

our spring break staycation our spring break staycationRationalization at its best: When you’re forced to eat the M&M’s because they expire in April…someone’s gotta do it! And chocolate goes perfectly with magazines, so I was a pretty happy camper on the rainy days! It’s all in the name of ‘work research,’ after all…

our spring break staycation…and Harry gave me plenty of side-eye over the last week, so I guess some things really never change.

How was your week? What have you been up to? Anything exciting happen? Send me positive vibes as I work to get back into my routine…I’m thinking I’m going to need it. Desperately… xoxo

Hello to Spring Break…

Hello to Spring BreakWell, friends, we’ve finally made it to the weekend!! I don’t know about you, but I’m super excited to be saying hello to spring break! Like I mentioned last year, I’ve really found it helpful to give some sort of structure to my work schedule. If not, well, everything just seems to explode! I get so overwhelmed and off task — as you can probably imagine, it’s most definitely NOT a very good look for me! I like to keep my life as cool, calm and collected as I can; I hope you’re doing that as well!

Anyway, with that in mind, I’m taking next week off for spring break fun and shenanigans! My mom is on spring break next week, so I thought this would be the perfect chance for the three of us to spend some much-needed time together. We’ve already got one day planned: We’re going out to lunch and then going to see Beauty and the Beast! I honestly can’t believe I haven’t seen it yet. I’m dyyyying!!! I’ve heard such good things about it — have you seen it?

I’ll be back to the regular posting schedule on Monday, April 3rd, and can’t wait to chat with you all then! Meanwhile, if you’re in a blog-reading mood, feel free to browse the archives for a peek into my mind and life. And as always, feel free to connect with me on Pinterest, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Bloglovin! See you there, friends! xoxo
