Savoring Summer #2: Twists on ice cream

When I think of the perfect summer, I think of warm afternoons cooled off with a heaping helping of ice cream — OK, maybe not a whole heaping helping, but you get the point. In fact, my mouth is watering just thinking about it. There is nothing that can’t be cured with an ice cream cone. It’s a fact. Growing up, I spent many a happy afternoon on walks to get ice cream and having to scarf it down before it dripped down my chin as we sat on benches outside. And what’s better than traditional ice cream? These 10 tasty twists…

Neapolitan oreo ice cream bites

Lemon almond coconut ice cream sandwiches

Donut ice cream sandwiches (yes, they’re a thing!)

Chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream sandwiches

Watermelon lime sorbet slices

Ice cream cupcakes

Peanut butter ice cream brownie pie

S’mores ice cream sandwiches

Ice cream scoop pops

Ice cream filled cupcakes

What’s your favorite ice cream flavor, friends? Are you more of a traditional ice cream enthusiast, or do you like fun twists on everyone’s favorite summer treat? Any awesome recipes you’d like to share? I’d love to hear — and of course chat about all things ice cream! xoxo

Guest Post: 6 Ways To Make Summer Last Longer

My, how quickly the summer months fly by. Soon the autumn leaves will fall, a crush of students will invade school hallways across the country and math exams will be doled out for good measure. Nevertheless, there is still time to cram in a few more days of summer fun before the moment arrives to crack open those textbooks. Not only is there still time, but there are also several ways to squeeze out every ounce of summer joy before the school bell rings, like Aeroplan partners, where you earn points to travel! Here are six ways to make the summer last just a little bit longer…

1. Right as the air starts to get nice and crisp, pick a day to spend hiking along a beautiful nature trail or extend the hike to a weekend excursion to include backpacking and camping. Speaking of camping, if funds are too low to spend on travel due to all of that shopping for school supplies and clothing, then pitching a tent in your own backyard can be just as exciting.

2. Movie night and popcorn has always been a family favorite pastime. Whether it’s an outing at the local movie theater or just gathering around the flat screen TV in the den, it does not matter. All you need are a bunch of DVDs and a microwave oven to pop plenty of popcorn.

3. Another way to enjoy a nice summer day is by playing a game of miniature golf. Fresh air, sunshine and a little exercise never hurt anyone.

4. Remember all those restaurant coupons received in the mail and newspaper circulars? Why not save time and energy otherwise devoted on cooking and menu planning and dine out a few nights a week or treat yourself to lunch.

5. A trip to an amusement park is a surefire way to cap off a memorable summer. In fact, going to the park before school begins may be right at the end of their peak season. One can’t go wrong with a last-minute vacation, especially when the costs are lower.

6. Everyone loves a barbecue. A “back-to-school cookout” is a great way to celebrate accomplishments and hopes for the future with family and friends. To make it even more interesting and memorable, have a theme. Throw a throwback to the ’70’s mixer complete with music and clothing from the era.

Summer is almost over…just almost. Carpe diem!

Savoring Summer #1: Anchor bracelets

This summer, I’ve been completely obsessed with all things nautical. We’re talking stripes, sailboats, lighthouses, sneakers. I’ve even found myself clipping inspiration from magazines for an actual, real life, in-the-flesh pinboard — yeah, I’m that obsessed. But at the top of my nautical wishlist? Anchor bracelets! They’re simple and delicate with just the right amount of flash and pop to make them the perfect piece of arm candy. Plus, I love the symbolism behind them — having something that anchors you down and keeps you grounded.

I’ve spent many an evening scrolling through all the pretty possibilities on the good old Internets. Here are six of my favorites…

1. Anchor bracelet in grey, $14.99
2. Jack and Bobby rig, $38
3. Navy leather wrap bracelet, $58
4. Peach/gold anchor bracelet, $26
5. Silver anchor rope bracelet, $60
6. Nautical gold anchor bracelet, $11.92

Are you a big fan of the nautical trend, friends? Any favorites? Now all we need is a giant sailboat and an open sea. Who’s with me? xoxo

Family Photos: End-of-summer fun!

To kick off Savoring Summer Week 2014, I thought it only appropriate that I give you a little peek into how we’ve been enjoying the last lazy days of my favorite season. Needless to say, we’ve been making the most of the last couple weeks — summer-style, of course! Translation: “Doing lots” means staying home, relaxing and eating lots of good food! Just a few of my favorite end-of-summer things, like spending entire weekends reading magazines (I’m choosing to call it research!)…

Cool drinks (Loooove Panera’s soda fountain) and delicious eats (My mom grew these tomatoes, though I haven’t tried them yet)…

Quality time with the cats, who never stop teaching us new things about the art of relaxing…

LOTS of games — did I mention I’m on a huge losing streak? It’s seriously bad!

What do you think, friends? Hope you’re enjoy these laid-back summer days!!! And if you need me, I’ll be glued to Taylor‘s Live Stream for the rest of the afternoon! I’ve been counting down the days for months…talk about fun!!! 🙂

How are you savoring summer?

Allow me to put on my beatnik hat and wax poetic for a moment: The end is near. Like those beautifully white puffy clouds, the summer is drifting away. We walk a little faster as we feel the brisk chill in the air. We watch the glow of the sun as it sinks deeper and deeper into the crimson sky. And we might even lather up on the sunscreen just so we can carry that beach smell with us all day long.

Yes, friends, now more than ever, we’re looking to savor those last few sips of lemonade! So, I thought it would be fun to celebrate summer’s last hurrah this week with some fun themed posts. Look for lots of inspiration on savoring these dog days of summer…

But, first, I’d love to hear: how are you savoring the summer? Doing anything to celebrate? Long walks? Ice cream runs? Nightly bonfires? Let’s chat, shall we? xoxo

P.S. More simple summer pleasures, like sun rooms, flowing dresses, popsicles, glamping, temporary tattoos, baseball tees, fruity ice cubes and road trip essentials! 🙂
