Your Name Today

Ever wonder what your name would be if you were born today? Well, I may or may not have gotten a bit obsessed with this neat popular name generator that compares the popularity of your name today with its status the year you were born. For example, just take a look at my findings for my family…

*Melissa (5th most popular girl’s name in 1981): My name today would be Ava

*Sharon (13th most popular girl’s name in 1956): My mom’s name today would be Avery

*Janelle (188th most popular girl’s name in 1985): My sister’s name today would be Harmony

*Brian (74th most popular boy’s name in 1951): My father’s name today would be Jason

How cool is that? What year were you born and how popular was your name? Also, what would your name be today? Does it suit you? Why or why not? And just for fun, what is your all-time favorite name? xoxo

What are your favorite baby names?

We’ve talked about baby names before, and it’s weird because even though I’m still not sure if I’ll ever have kids, the topic of baby names has always fascinated me. Where they come from. Which ones are popular. How they change in popularity over the years. Why parents choose one name over — literally! — thousands of others.

My parents had names picked out, even before I was born. If I was a boy, they were going to name me Timothy (can’t say I’m a fan of that one…), and for a girl, they were set on, well, Melissa — apparently, my mom had loved the name since she was young. The inspiration for my sister’s name — Janelle — came from a family my mom met while I was in the hospital. And I get to choose her middle name, Elizabeth, which was a pretty big responsibility in my four-year-old mind.
There are so many great names to watch out for in 2013, according to BabyCenter’s top ten list. Haha, looks like I was ahead of the trend when I named my Cabbage Patch Doll Emma wayyy back in the ’80s.

What baby names do you love, friends? What’s the story behind your name? Is it a family name? Or maybe it’s something your parents chose at the last minute? What are your kids’ names? If you don’t have kids, do you have names picked out for when the special day comes? xoxo

P.S. A special announcement is coming up this afternoon! 🙂 Excited?

Mister Rogers documentary

Growing up, many children wished they lived in Mister Rogers’ neighborhood. Well, in 2001, MTV producer Benjamin Wagner spent the summer as Mister Rogers’ real-life neighbor on Nantucket island. After Rogers’ death in 2003, Wagner set out to learn more about the man who meant so much to a generation. He also wanted to dig deeper into some of the lessons Rogers had taught him that summer, including the idea that “deep and simple is far more essential than shallow and complex.”

The result was Mister Rogers & Me, an 80-minute documentary chronicling the life-changing friendship. “If I learned one thing during the making of Mister Rogers & Me, it was that nearly everyone has a Mister Rogers story,” says Benjamin. “Everyone has a story of inspiration and impact.”

How amazing is that? The trailer made me so excited to see the film. It must have been a once-in-a-lifetime experience — a childhood wish come true!

Will you watch it, friends? Did you watched Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood when you were little? What’s your Mister Rogers story? I’d love to hear it! I’ll share mine in the comments! xoxo

Little Miss books: Which one are you?

Whoa! These Little Miss books sure took me back this morning. Do you remember them? Each book features a different character with a big personality, like Little Miss Bossy, Little Miss Curious, Little Miss Helpful, Little Miss Shy and Little Miss Trouble. Roger Hargreaves created the series after his son, Adam, asked the simple question: “What does a tickle look like?” Now, 40 years later, Adam is the writer and illustrator of the series.

How sweet is that? Did you ever read them when you were little, friends? Which one could you identify with the most? Did you have a favorite? xoxo

P.S. Fun fact: A new book is sold every 2.5 seconds worldwide! 🙂
