Let’s Chat: Love Your Pet Day

Love Your Pet DayThanks to the wonders of Twitter, I discovered that today is Love Your Pet Day! Well, you all know that I certainly don’t need an excuse to show off my two favorite creatures any day of the week! So, let’s all indulge in our pets today and share some stories, shall we??

What would I do without these little rascals in my life?? Honestly, I’m not sure. At all. In fact, I never even knew I was a cat person until Harry waltzed into our lives, and that was a full 14 years ago this spring! Can you believe that??

And then, we got Stella on a whim one day in 2008. After that, everything just sort of clicked. These two cats became our family right away, and our love for them was instantaneous! I never knew that kind of thing could happen, you know? But it did, and I am so grateful for that every single day.

Now, Harry and Stella love being with us. All the time. At night, when we’re eating dinner and watching Olivia Benson get the bad guys on SVU, Harry is usually sleeping on my mom’s lap and Stella is snoring behind me on the bed. It’s a peaceful kind of calm — one that we’re loving, especially after the hectic last few months we’ve had around here.

Another surprising lesson: Harry is especially amazing! He’s 16, diabetic and only has a couple teeth!! He keeps going, though! A lesson to us all. Just. Keep. Going. Even when it’s hard. Even when you want to give up and hunker down. Even when people criticize you and belittle you. Instead of giving in, be like Harry. Walk tall and hold your head high. You’re pretty special!

Love Your Pet DayWhat pets have got you wrapped around their little paws, friends?? I’d love to hear some adorable stories…and maybe even see some pics!! xoxo

So About What I Said is a daily blog that covers relationships, disabilities, lifestyle and pop culture. I love to laugh and have been known to overshare. I also have an unabashed obsession with pop music, polo shirts, and PEZ dispensers. Read more...
