Can we chat for a minute?? Word on the runway is that you recently gave yourself a little makeover. In the form of a brand new slogan, to be exact. You’ve been around a long time, so I understand the need to reinvent your look and try something new — though, who am I to judge, seeing as how I’ve had the same haircut since the late ’80s??
Trust me, I get it. The need to do something different can be quite strong sometimes! And, as Ukonwa Ojo, SVP CoverGirl, said in a statement…
“In leading the relaunch, we started with the insight that people no longer strive for a singular standard of beauty, but use makeup as a tool for self-expression and personal transformation. CoverGirl has always been inclusive and is known for pushing the boundaries of what it means to be beautiful, which means we have a responsibility to elevate how we connect and communicate with people. This is bigger than a new campaign or a tagline. We hope to spark a provocative dialogue that shifts cultural assumptions about when, where, how and why people wear makeup.”
Ahhh, yes, redefining what exactly it means to be beautiful and comfortable in YOUR skin. This is something I’ve always championed, especially here on So About What I Said, and am so glad to see big cosmetics brands like yourself finally getting on the train!
And, makeup as a tool for self-expression and individualism?? That’s something I’ve only just began embracing in the last few years. But, wowzers, have I made up for lost time recently! I’m in love with your Jumbo Gloss balms and the Oh Sugar! balms and have even been known to line my arm with a rainbow of color swatches. It’s like dancing through a candy-colored dream sequence, I tell you!
But, back to your new slogan. I like it, but I’ve been thinking of some other ideas. Some that pack a little more personalized punch — you know, since your brand is all about the individual. Here are 3 additional options, straight from my lipstick-loving mind…
Unapologetically You
I’m all about being yourself and not giving a damn what the rest of the world thinks. It’s that sort of confidence that is truly beautiful, don’t you think? It’s like you’re screaming to the world, “This is who I am. Take it or leave it!” *cue smile with a bright red lip*
Beauty Is What You Make Up
Make up — see what I did there with that little play on words? Nice, isn’t it? Beauty really is whatever you want it to be, and how cool is it that your makeup can reflect that? So go wild with that glitter mascara or hot pink nail polish — standing out is definitely the way to go, if you ask me!
#BeBraveBeYou
OK, so this is sort of a shameless plug for my blog — and, dare I say, my brand. I’ve been known to use the #BeBraveBeYou hashtag on Twitter, and I think it’s so true to life. Being you IS an act of bravery these days, and that is something that should be celebrated and applauded, don’t you think?? Plus, using this as the slogan would lend itself perfectly to digital marketing campaigns on social media and even other merchandise like t-shirts emblazoned with the hashtag! Oh, I can just see the potential now…
So, what do you think, CoverGirl?? I think this could be the beginning of a beautiful collaboration between us. Will you join me?? xoxo
