Sponsor Spotlight: RockDoveRings

I have a major weakness for a shiny, pretty stone! Of any size, shape or color, really. They make me all sorts of happy. So when I discovered RockDoveRings during a recent Etsy browse-a-thon, I instantly fell in love with owner Carolyn’s gorgeous creations. The Brooklyn-based designer crafts everything, like pretty rings, eye-catching necklaces and shiny bangles. I love how her pieces are both understated but also pack a powerful punch.

So when she invited me to choose a piece from her shop to feature today, it didn’t take me long to pick a favorite: This carnelian stacking ring! I was immediately drawn to the orange/red hue and rustic feel, and it got me looking forward to fall fashion. How gorgeous is it? Plus, it sort of matches my hair, don’t you think??

Read on for my interview with Carolyn, who talks about what it’s like running an Etsy shop and gives us the inside scoop on summer fashion… xoxo

Tell me a bit about RockDoveRings. What’s the inspiration behind its launch?
I’ve always made jewelry for friends, but never landed on a process I was really excited about until I discovered electroforming. I saw this woman on YouTube turning seashells and flowers into copper and it blew my mind. I had to learn it!

What are some trends we’re seeing for the summer? What are some of your favorite fashion/jewelry trends?
Well, I’m very excited and lucky that natural rocks are currently trending. I love the look of electroformed copper and natural crystals. They make sense together. I’m also glad the boho trend is still going strong because I’m not ready to give up my Birkenstocks and flowy dresses just yet.

What are some things people should keep in mind when shopping for jewelry?
Handmade items are crafted with care and love, but Forever 21 doesn’t love you or their factory workers… 😉

What are some ways that people can still look chic for less?
A good necklace changes everything. A long pendant over a $10 tee shirt and shorts is suddenly a cool outfit. At least, that’s what I tell myself every day when I leave the house, so hopefully I’m right.

What is your favorite piece in your shop and why?
My favorite piece is the jadeite ring. It’s completely unique to our shop. First of all, I LOVE jadeite. I have beautiful Fireking jadeite bowls that I inherited from my grandmother and I’ve built a set of dinnerware around them by shopping at vintage stores. I even have a matching Avon fish decanter that I purchased from another cool Etsy store called Lulubellebazaar–it still stinks like gross Avon bath cologne and I love it so much. Each jadeite ring is made with shards of these once-loved tea cups, plates and bowls. My fiancé and I combed Dead Horse Bay in Brooklyn — where really old trash from a busted landfill continually washes ashore — to find each broken puzzle piece and turn them back into something beautiful that can be enjoyed all over again.

(RockDoveRings sent me the carnelian stacking ring, though all opinions expressed are my own. Thanks so much for continuing to support So About What I Said’s wonderful sponsors!)
