What’s Your ‘Once Upon A Time’ Story?

We’ve talked about our lives as a six-word memoir before and how our lives can usually be summed up in a few key words. I really do believe there’s something to that theory, and just giving voice to those words can be a pretty powerful thing.

My mom was at church last weekend, and there was a little storytelling activity. The objective was to tell your life story as if it were a fairy tale. She jotted down the first thing that came to mind, and the result is the little story above.

It’s not exactly a Snow White or Sleeping Beauty story, but I’d say it has WAY MORE meat than any of those Disney stories, wouldn’t you? What I loved about this was that it didn’t have to be one of those happily-ever-after tales. It could be real and true and honest, without glossing over the not-so-happy parts. Sure, you can have those happy moments, but you should never shy away from the times that don’t always have a silver lining. We all have those times, and if we’re being honest with ourselves, those are the times that help us define and refine just who we are.

So, what would your story look like, friends? Would it be on the happy side or the sad side? I’d love to hear about it, so share your story in the comments! xoxo

I really like your mother's story. I think it is true of many families.

So About What I Said is a daily blog that covers relationships, disabilities, lifestyle and pop culture. I love to laugh and have been known to overshare. I also have an unabashed obsession with pop music, polo shirts, and PEZ dispensers. Read more...
