Sponsor Spotlight: BlueSunflowers

I recently had the pleasure of interviewing Himi from BlueSunflowers, the Vancouver-based shop specializing in gorgeously handcrafted jewelry and bridesmaids gifts. Himi’s shop had grown from her just making little earrings here and there for friends to her full-fledged Etsy shop of engagement rings, bridesmaids gifts, necklaces, earrings, bracelets and stacking rings. And Himi is front-and-center every step of the way with each order; she designs, creates, packs and ships every single order herself and is excited about expanding her business this year. Read on for her favorite trends and her shopping tips! xoxo

Tell me about BlueSunflowers. What’s the inspiration behind its launch?
My Etsy journey start in 2010. I was a newly stay-at-home mom of two boys and needed something to make a living with. One thing led to another and here I am today. I am a single mom raising my kids full-time, working from home every day and surrounded by shiny, sparkling, beautiful jewelry. I couldn’t be happier!

What are some trends we’re seeing as we move into the summer? What are some of your favorite fashion/jewelry trends?
Peach champagne, light pink and pale blue are what I see trending this coming summer. Lace for wedding is also as popular as ever, and I think a lot of bold sparkling jewelry will be in, along with layered or chunky bracelets.

What are some things people should keep in mind when shopping for jewelry?
You should always keep in mind the quality of the piece. Make sure you always read the description and make sure you know whether you are buying plated, filled or solid metal. Acquire some knowledge, ask questions before you buy and also read up on it through Google.

What are some ways that people can still look chic for less?
Stacking rings are always the easiest way to look chic without breaking the bank. Layering necklaces is another good way, and, especially on Etsy, lots of sellers are willing to give discounts for buying more than one necklace. A great way to build up your jewelry closet without ever having to pay full price.

What is your favorite piece in your shop and why?
My favorite pieces are the ones with the stones, like these stacking rings and birthstone necklace. I have this new-found love for how interesting and exquisite gemstones are and now that my hand is well-trained enough to work with them, I am quite excited for my future! 🙂
