I first developed a girl crush on Cameron Diaz way back in the ’90s when she played a goody-goody opposite Julia Roberts in My Best Friend’s Wedding — one of my all-time favorite movies! Since then, I’ve always admired her strength and independently fierce spirit. She knows who she is and makes absolutely NO apologies for it.
But, even she’s not immune to making mistakes — and even better, she’s not afraid to admit her foibles when it comes to love. In her January interview with Cosmo, she opened up about timing and learning from past relationships…
“You have to find someone in the same place as you are. Timing is everything. If you get into a relationship where you want something the guy doesn’t want, it’s never gonna work…You make the same mistake over and over again until you learn your lesson. We girls sometimes do the thing where we pick the same person over and over again — they look and seem different, but deep down, they’re the same. And that’s on us.”
This girl knows what’s what, doesn’t she? I feel like I’m constantly falling for the same type of guy — you know, the not-quite-right-for-you guy who is completely and utterly unattainable. You know subconsciously that you’re falling for him because he’s out of reach, and therefore, there’s zero chance of getting your heart broken. He’s the ultimate in safe choices. But deep down, you know he’s not in the same places as you — and will never, ever be in the same place as you — so you wrestle with time. And…time usually wins.
Are you a fan of Diaz? What’s your favorite movie of hers? Favorite quote? Let’s chat, friends! xoxo
