Creativity with Winona Dimeo-Ediger…and a giveaway!

I’m so excited to introduce you to the creative mind behind today’s giveaway! I first connected with Winona back when she wrote for The Frisky, and I immediately loved her writing style. She wrote beautiful pieces about her life (the beauty of doing your own thing!), but also found the most awesome gems the good old Internets had to offer — goats singing Jurassic Park, anyone?

Well, a couple months ago, Winona shifted her creative focus when she began selling her art prints! I interviewed the artist recently, who mused about all things from inspiration to Nashville! Read on…and look for an amazing giveaway at the end!

You have a writing background. What inspired your new creative venture?
I’d been writing full-time for about 3 years, and even though I loved many aspects of my job, I was just ready to do something different. Specifically, I was tired of spending my entire day chained to the computer and wanted to be creative in a more tactile way. I was posting hand-lettered quotes to Instagram as part of a #365quotes hashtag challenge, and when people started asking to buy them, I thought, “Hey, maybe I could actually do this!” It’s been so cool and surreal to see my art hanging in people’s houses.

What are three things that inspire you the most?
1. My city, Nashville — there is so much creative energy here, plus awesome music everywhere, all the time. It’s a fun, beautiful place to live, and I feel inspired every time I walk out the door!
2. Art — Sometimes I make sexual noises at the art museum without realizing it. I just really love art.
3. Traveling — Experiencing other cultures, eating new foods, seeing beautiful scenery, getting lost. I just got back from Iceland and I’m already dying to go back!

What are some easy ways that people can add a bit of creativity and inspiration into their lives?
I think just being more open in general to new people, experiences and opportunities. Don’t over-plan and over-book yourself. Make room in your day for the spontaneous and unexpected. Stagnancy is the enemy of creativity, so break out of your routine, even if it’s just for an afternoon.

Winona is giving one of her signature Follow Your Arrow original watercolor prints to one lucky reader. How awesome is that? You can choose whatever color of floral border you’d like.

For your chance to win, simply visit Winona’s Etsy shop, and leave a comment below, telling us how you “follow your arrow” in life. For additional entries, you can (please leave a separate comment for each entry)…

You can also Tweet about the giveaway — just make sure to mention @melissablake + @winona_rose in your Tweet!

A winner will be chosen at random on Wednesday, November 5th, so you’ve got a whole week to enter. Have fun, friends! xoxo

**Special Offer: Winona is also offering a special $25 flat-rate sale for the Follow Your Arrow print to So About What I Said readers! Just email winona.rose@gmail.com to place your order! 🙂

Lovely giveaway! I think we sometimes have to go with flow, fire that arrow and just follow it. Wondering where it will end up just isn't good enough anymore. Sometimes you have to go for it! (Visited etsy, followed winona, followed you on Twitter, Instagram & GFC)

My arrow would be my direction in life and love… From my husband being in the military and constantly moving and changing career paths to be with him. 🙂

I guess creativity flows in her blood, huh? To think that she just recently shifted her focus to making art, it's quite a feat for her to succeed in it. She really is a talented woman! Thanks for sharing her background with us. She's a huge inspiration. Also, I love the song Follow your Arrow by Kacey Musgraves. I wonder if that was the inspiration behind her art print? Good luck to everyone who entered the giveaway. Happy Holidays! 🙂
