Lust.
Greed. Pride. Sloth. Envy. Wrath. Gluttony.
Greed. Pride. Sloth. Envy. Wrath. Gluttony.
They’re all there, and cover the
gamut of life. While I’m not a religious person, there’s no denying the fact that I have fallen victim to a few of them. And in the interest of full disclosure, I thought it only fair that you know. About all of it. There’s no escaping them,
really. So, I give you my take on those seven sins (remember that Brad Pitt movie?)…

really. So, I give you my take on those seven sins (remember that Brad Pitt movie?)…
Lust
I’ve never
been a very lustful person. Actually, it’s not even really my sin of choice.
But ask any teenager on this big planet of ours about this topic, and you’ll
see first-hand just what a lusty bunch they can be. I assume newlyweds can be
put in the same group. See, I really don’t know much about lust.

Greed
A movie once proclaimed that, “Greed is good.” I’m not so sure about that. Greed, I’d
say, is more like one of those great dividers. Greed makes people even greener
around the gills with envy (Don’t worry; I’ll be getting to our good old friend
envy in a few paragraphs). Greed is the sort of thing that gets you into the
want, want, want zone, seemingly incapable of climbing or crawling (or even
buying!) your way out. So beware of that greed.

Pride
Now, I’ve
never understood how or why pride ever found its way onto a list of sins. My
parents raised me with a healthy (some may even call it unhealthy) sense of
self-esteem. Why not take pride in who you are and what you do? Isn’t that sort
of the natural order of things?

Sloth
I’ll be the
first to admit that I do suffer from a bit of sloth. I like to call it being
meticulous — very, very meticulous — in my selection of what I choose to do with
my time. Some might call it laziness. I call it proper planning. You should note, boys, that this does not apply to my work. I love my work. I could work all day, every day if I could.

Wrath
Wrath.
Anger seems to ooze so easily from some people. And more often than not, this
anger goes along with a very negative and pessimistic outlook on the world. If
I’ve learned anything in the last few years, it’s that you have to let that
anger go. Just let it fly away like a red balloon. Because, in the end, it’s
not worth it.

Envy
I like to
think of envy as one of the most universal ones. We’ve all been jealous of
others at one time in our lives. Jealous of the guy with the fancy Ferrari. The
co-worker who gets the promotion. It’s an easy trap to fall into, and, if we’re
not careful, it could send us spiraling down that trap and into greed’s open arms.

Gluttony
I saved my
sin for last, the one I suffer from the most. Gluttony. For me, this comes in
the form of good food and delicious sweets. Some women turn into the most light of eaters around me — you can rest assured that I’ll never do that, boys.

P.S. But, remember, I’ll still be careful about marriage, won’t take dating lightly, will embrace growing up and never forget the power of saying three little words.

Lust, pride, sloth and wrath are probably the 4 I am most guilty of!
Thanks for commenting on my blog, I had a little poke around yours and see you are a very inspiring woman. I read an article you wrote about people being mean to you about your disability, some people can be just dreadful and heartless. We are all just flesh and bone at the end of the day. I do not know what it is about human nature that feels the need to tear each other down. It disappoints me.
Keep being wonderful!

Sloth, when it comes to exercise is me, all the way.
Liz says
I think that when we are honest with ourselves, we are guilty of all these things every day to some degree. And yet, on the flip side, we are also able to fulfill the seven virtues every day as well.
Melissa Blake says
Exactly, Elle!
