RE: Being desired and deserving love
DATE: October 1, 2012
Boys, I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve received my fair share of nasty comments over the years. I’m human. As much as I’d like to be, I’m simply not immune to those not-so-nice comments that make their way to me every now and then. I can usually brush them off with ease, barely feeling the sting of each word, but I came across a comment recently that I just couldn’t let slip by so easily. Not because I saw a kernel of truth in the hallow words, but because someone else did. That someone? Well, you, boys…or at the very least, some of you. Here’s the comment…
No man will ever find you worthy of a second glance, much less a flirtatious smile. Get used to being alone for the rest of your life. You’ll never know what it’s like to be desired, or loved.
Really? You can’t really and truly believe that, can you? You can’t really believe that someone is so undeserving of something so basic and important as love, can you? Can you imagine the kind of world we would be living in if we all believed this nonsense?
Do I know what it feels like to be loved? Of course I do. I may not have experienced romantic love yet, but I have so much love in my life right now from family and friends. And I’m content with that for right now. Sure, things may change in the future, and I’d be more than excited to see where that change would take me, but if you think I’m alone — and going to be alone for the rest of my life — you’re sorely mistaken.
But I do hold out hope, boys. I hold out hope that not all of you are like this. Not all of you harbor such insecurities — the sort of insecurities that drive you to put other people down if for no other reason than to boost your fragile ego. Because, honestly, that’s not the way the world works. And that’s certainly not the way to a girl’s heart. So I look forward to you showing me that you’re different, boys. I know you can do it… xoxo
