Beauty is everywhere around us, in people and things, visible and often drawing us to admire it, whether the beauty of a lovely sunset, a vision of golden pies baking or the beautiful innocence in a child’s sweet face. Beauty is pleasing to the eyes, so it’s natural that we like to be surrounded by it. But all this beauty in the world is really only surface deep, especially when it comes to people. I remember a woman telling me that “Pretty is as pretty does,” and while many people are unfortunately judged by their appearance, the truth is that there are many ways to feel beautiful without makeup or gracing a magazine cover or winning a beauty pageant.
Do good things for others
Nothing makes us feel less self-conscious than simply thinking about others and caring about their welfare. Instead of always contemplating our own problems, we can focus more outwardly — suddenly, trivial problems we used to spend hours stressing over not only seem smaller, but they make just disappear from their utter insignificance in comparison to what we find when we actually venture out in the world with a mind to spread happiness. It also makes us more beautiful when we stop acting like nervous worrywarts who talk about ourselves all the time.
It’s so rare to find a lady who emanates true graciousness and class anymore; it seems people are more interested in what’s in it for them and what more they can get. When you show appreciation for what you have in life — a true inner thankfulness for what you’ve already been blessed with, it radiates a serenity and poise that is hard to beat with any lipstick or spray tan. There are few things more lovely than a woman who is happy as she is and who, rather than run the rat race anymore, is calmly aware of how lucky she is. People like to be around a positive, grateful person. It’s a magnetic quality.
See the good in others and admire it
Admire it verbally. To them. You will see how beautiful you appear to them reflected in their eyes because there are few things more beautiful to anyone than someone who sees something in them that most people miss. We all want to feel seen and understood and to have our good qualities noticed. If someone sees wonderful things in us, how much do we love that person as a result? Yeah, so be THAT person.
Tell me ways you feel beautiful on those days when you know makeup isn’t the answer…
