Yesterday, friends, I asked what you’d take with you if your house were on fire. It’s a frightening prospect, isn’t it? But it’s one worth thinking about. Have a question? I’d love to hear it, so feel free to email me (mellow1422 [at] aol) or ask me on Facebook or Twitter, friends! Today’s question is…
If your house was on fire, what would you take? What a question! After making sure my mom, sister and our two cats had made it out safely, I thought of what I’d scramble to grab if I only had a few minutes. After all, most things can be replaced. So, I kept that in mind as I walked through my house last night in an attempt to pick out my must-saves. Here’s what made the cut…
1. My purse, since that’s usually in my wheelchair basket at all times.
2. My jewelry box and the two rings my mom’s aunt gave me recently.
3. As many of my writing samples as I could carry, including this Chicken Soup For The Soul book from a few years ago.
4. My journals because all six volumes basically tell the story of my childhood and teen years.
5. Family photo albums because those are so near and dear to me.
What do you think, friends? xoxo

I think these are wise choices. Especially your journals.

Great question! I actually keep a little 'emergency bag' in case there's a fire or something. I have there important paperwork such as passport, social security, etc, as well as jewerly pieces. I'll try to get my computer too as I have so much material, including pics and work…XOXO

Jessi — that's my favorite of all the journals I've used! I can't find another one like it and can't remember where I got it. Where'd you get yours?

Elsa, an emergency bag is such a good idea!!

An emergency bag is a great idea. I live in the forest and we were evacuated before. My house wasn't on fire but it was still scary. We brought our birds, photo albums, a few clothes and my makeup bag. My daughter packed various little things. I hope we don't have to do that again anytime soon!

Once the living inhabitants are out (people and dogs) I'd want my journals, photo albums, the necklace my grandparents gave me and my netbook.

Loved ones both two and four legged…photo albums, purse, address book and marriage certificate.
We had a fire several years ago, it wasn't severe but water damage destroyed all our wedding photos and many family and childhood pictures. I was at work at the time so not much I could do, but it's definitely something I've thought of since.
