A Thousand Years

I actually just wrote this one this morning. There are words in life we all wish we’d said, but could never find the courage to. We keep waiting for that moment to come around again, but sometimes it doesn’t. And realizing that is even harder than swallowing those words you never said. Have you ever felt this way, friends? xoxo

You dance around like a daydream in my head
A picture-perfect vision of what could have been
Looks like I was the one who should have known
Fairytales seem darker in the morning light
But your face, your smile, it’s painted in my mind
So I cry the tears of the words I never told

I could wait a thousand years
Walk a thousand miles in every direction
Look you in the eye and tell you everything I’m feeling inside
But a thousand years won’t change your perspective
And I’ve been waiting a thousand years to fly

We look awkwardly at each other, wish I could see you through rose-colored glasses again
Maybe then, I could change everything that’s happened
Ooooh, you’ve got a way of pulling me under
All beginnings have an ending, but our ending doesn’t have a beginning
Just a heart now full of empty feelings
Realizing that now is never going to be forever

I could wait a thousand years
Walk a thousand miles in every direction
Look you in the eye and tell you everything I’m feeling inside
But a thousand years won’t change your perspective
And I’ve been waiting a thousand years to fly

But your face, your smile, it’s painted in my mind
I’ll think of you this way every time, every time, every time

I could wait a thousand years
Walk a thousand miles in every direction
Look you in the eye and tell you everything I’m feeling inside
But a thousand years won’t change your perspective
And I’ve been waiting a thousand years to fly

I could wait a thousand years
Walk a thousand miles in every direction
Look you in the eye and tell you everything I’m feeling inside
But a thousand years won’t change your perspective
And I’ve been waiting a thousand years to fly

Beautifully written. I think everyone has things they wish they would have said (I know I do).

I love the line "I've been waiting a thousand years to fly." I see that as being about so much more than the words we wish we'd said.
