We talked about fate yesterday, so when I discovered that this week is National Singles Week, I couldn’t help but think the universe was working its magic at aligning things yet again, even if only slightly.
Let’s just be honest, friends: I’m pretty good at being single. In fact, I’ve got the whole thing down to a science — which, ironically, could very well be part of my problem — and if being single were an Olympic sporting event, I’d win a shiny gold medal. In every category. I know how to be single. And when I really think about it, it can be easy to start feeling as though the weight of being part of the unattached crowd is baring down on my shoulders like an albatros around my neck. It gets heavier with every couple I see and digs into my skin just a bit more with every love song I hear (Hello, Fields of Gold) on the radio.
But when I really think about it, the more I realize that you can’t be with someone at the expense of getting to know yourself fully first. You have to get to know yourself before you can invest yourself in another person.
So maybe I don’t know how to be with someone yet. Maybe I need to be with myself just a little bit longer. People always say that love finds you when you’re not even looking. They’re probably on to something there.
I’m curious, friends: What’s your relationship status? Are you single and happy? Single and looking? Married? xoxo
