Letters To My Future Husband: Letter #116

Dear Mr. Melissa Blake
Did I ever tell you my favorite song? It’s Sting’s Fields of Gold. I was listening to it on repeat recently and found my mind drifting to you, someone I haven’t even met yet (well, that I know of, anyway…). And I couldn’t help but wonder: What would it be like to fall asleep in your arms? If you know me well enough, you’ll know I’m talking about actual sleeping. No hanky panky. No other euphemisms for hanky panky. No halfway to hanky panky or whatever the young people are calling it these days. No, I mean actual sleeping. Curled up together, relaxed and falling asleep to the rhythm of each other’s hearts. Take these lyrics to the song, for example:

Will you stay with me, will you be my love
Among the fields of barley
We’ll forget the sun in his jealous sky
As we lie in the fields of gold

Aren’t those beautiful lyrics, Sweetpea? It all sounds incredibly romantic, doesn’t it? It’s something I’ve never experienced and often wonder if we’ll do a lot of that when we’re dating. It sounds comforting. It sounds peaceful. To just be in that moment with you, shutting out all the world’s other annoying distractions, sounds so simple and yet so powerful. I can’t help but feel like it could be a big bonding moment for us.
Maybe we’ll talk as we fall asleep – about our life, about our hopes and dreams or maybe a conversation as simple and trivial as the events of our day. But it will mean something, you know? It will mean that we’re together, that we’re content with each other and that, sometimes, we’re even comfortable in the silence. I know I’ll probably end up talking your ear off, but I think I’ll come to cherish those silent moments, too. Because sometimes, you say so much more by saying nothing at all. And I don’t want to be one of those couples that always feels like fill in every little gap of silence. It’s OK not to say anything sometimes. Until we meet… xoxo

The lyrics to this song are among the most romantic I've ever heard (that Sting, quite the musical genius :))…I'd love to walk in fields of barley anytime, even if it's just my own little self, actually…

So touching and romantic, as always. I adore that song, and you are right, falling asleep in the arms of someone you love is the best feeling.

The woman who sings it is Eva Cassidy, she's got a divine voice.

Sometimes just curling up together is bliss. xx
