Love Lounge: Are You Old-Fashioned In Love?

I was obsessed with my ’50s poodle skirt when I was 13. We’re talking full-on obsessed here. Part of me wanted to wear it all the time. I didn’t think anything of it at the time, but now it’s easy to connect the dots. That skirt symbolized something for me. I’m completely old-fashioned when it comes to love and relationships. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or not.

Maybe you can help me, friends. Do you find yourself with old-fashioned tendencies? Is it really such a taboo thing? xoxo

I loved the poodle skirts too. I was a 50's girl for like 5 Halloweens when I was younger.

I'm obsessed with old-fashioned love. The 50's songs about love like Dion & the Supremes, the mamas and the papas, are what I think true love is. There was no technology to mess things up & things were so much simpler. People met in the 50's and are still together today. I love it. =)

Totally old-fashioned in love. I actually married my husband when I was 19 and was a stay at home mom for the first 12 yrs of our marriage. Now a total of 15 yrs and 2 babies later we work from home together full time. When I think of old-fashioned love I think of true commitment to each other and a complete lack of self. So unlike what we so often find today.

I am so old fashioned with love! 🙂
Seriously, I admire both of my grandparents in their late 1940s-1950s love.
They seemed so earnest and true and really in love.

Ooh, I'm definitely on the other end of this! My grandparents had old fashioned love and it worked beautifully for them, my parents had 70's hippie modern love and are still happy and together after 37 years, and now my boyfriend and I have a successful and loving over two year relationship that's extremely modern and would make me look like a right whore going by the standards of the 50's. What's adorable is my prim and proper grandmother is totally on board with my boyfriend and I moving in together before marriage and keeps telling me not to get married or have children too young. I think it's great that love can happen in so many ways and that with the right person we can all have our ideal romance. And poodle skirts will always be cool… ~ Laura

Ha ha. I made my own poodle skirt when I was 12. And the things of it is… I still have it and wear it from time to time.

I'm modern in that I will ask a man out first but after that it's old school all of the way. I prefer that the man make the first move when it comes to the first kiss and the first "I love you". I also prefer to date one guy at a time opting for a serious steady thing rather than a friends with benefits. Yuck.

I'm pretty old-fashioned when it comes to relationships too. Though I know that women are fully capable of asking men out, I'd so much rather prefer it if the guy asked the girl out. Also, I sometimes feel like in today's society, love has lost its meaning. It's been stripped down to sex. So, for me, personally, I prefer old-fashioned or traditional relationships!

This is a little off topic, but have you seen the movie 500 Days of Summer? I'm so behind and just saw it a few days ago but if you haven't seen it yet I really think you would enjoy it (and maybe have something to blog about). It's kind of like an opposite love story and Joseph Gordon Levitt is hot!

The older I get, the more old fashioned I become! I don't think being old fashioned is a bad thing at all… you know, besides all of the advancements we've made in technology, medicine, women's rights, etc., I think they may have been on to something. A simple life equals a happy life. I'm looking forward to some simplicity!

I'd like to say that I'm a hybrid of old and modern when it comes to love. Certain things I like to remain old-fashioned, but some things I prefer modern. 🙂

And yes! You definitely need to watch 500 Days of Summer! It's my absolutely favorite movie! 🙂

There is no problem old-fashioned love! If it was up to me, dates would end by 9, guys would wear a suit and necktie, and pull out my chair.
