Little Sisters.

There’s something about having a sibling (a built-in friend or foe…), isn’t there? Tomorrow is National Sibling Day, and my younger sister, Janelle, and I have always had a special relationship. Growing up, I always marveled at how she took on that caregiving role after all my surgeries, even if it something as simple as sitting by my bed with me. As we’ve grown older, I’m honored that I can finally make up for lost “older sister” time, and finally be the older sister I wish she’d had when we were younger. I just want to take care of her. After all, we’ve been through quite a lot together…

I took a Big Sister class even before you were born…

I was as proud as if you were my own child when you were born. Gosh, I was practically beaming…

We always enjoyed each other’s company…

Thank you for cheering me up after all my surgeries…

We had lots of awesome jam sessions together…

I’m honored to be your sister, Janelle! I love you more than you’ll ever know.

P.S. Don’t forget to hug your sibling today! xoxo

This was so very sweet, you girls are lucky to have each other. I wish I had a brother or a sister…but I guess that sometimes it is the family that you make and not necessarily the biological ones.

Melissa, I love this post! I have a younger sister too and while we don't live near eachother, I try to stay connected with her via phone and occasional visits. I'll make sure to give her a hug tomorrow! I also have a brother who is in Afghanistan with the Army. I wish I could give him a hug too but I'll have to send him a mind hug instead. Thanks for the uplifting post!

Melissa, you're so right! Nothing is better than having a brother/sister. I love mine with all my heart, she's the most precious person in the world for me, my best friend, my confidante. Thanks for sharing your family pictures.

I was the younger sister but always felt the need to protect my older sister from the outside world. At some point in her life she learned how to do this herself.
I have just started reading your blog and was so happy to see you have red hair just like me. I always love meeting another red head, (really weird my attraction to red heads) I hope it shows in the picture. xo, MB
