Songwriting.

Gosh, I’ve spent the last week writing so many new lyrics that I’ve crowned this week Songwriting Week. Surprising, isn’t it? And what’s even more surprising is that I actually like some of them and a so does a music publicist. Now, I’m probably going to look back on this post in 10 years and laugh, saying, “What was I ever thinking?” but to think that someone connected with songwriters in Nashville, someone who showed my lyrics to said songwriters, gives me this sort of intangible hope I’d never thought I’d have. True, it’s all a very-big, very far-off long shot, but it’s this sort of unexpected flattery that makes me feel like even if I never hear my song on the radio (how crazy wild would that be?). I can still look back and say, “Look at what I did accomplish.” They are still mine, even if no one else in the world ever hears them, and maybe that’s all I really need.

So…what to do now? Do you have any advice, friends? What are some good songwriting blogs and books out there? Wouldn’t it be nice if you could interview for the job of songwriter like you do for a job at an office?

P.S. I’d love to see some of the lyrics you have written, too! xoxo

Thanks, CC! Though I'm technically someone-who-likes-to-write-about-their-life-and-maybe-someday-will-get-published! xoxo

I have no idea about what's really involved in songwriting, but I'm happy for you. It seems like a very big deal 🙂

Every song I have seen you write is amazing. I wish I knew some extra tips to help you out but you seem to being doing good on your own : ). If I ever had any tips or advice I will be sure to share the secrets with you : )

Yay for songwriting week! I would recommend checking out The Songwriter's Marketplace – it has contact info for different people (agencies, libraries, etc.) and really helpful articles.

Feel free to email me too if you have any more questions!

Melissa! Get a piece of paper right now and write in big letters …

"I will hear my song on the radio"

Tape it up on a wall somewhere in your house where you'll see it everyday and leave it there. Don't focus on it, just go about your life doing the best you can. But leave it up where you'll be reminded that you WILL hear your song on the radio.
