Be Yourself.

I thought of a few recent not-so-nice encounters. It all made me think. So I wrote this song about it – a sort of reminder to myself of who I am. There will be people who try to change you. There will be people who disparage you. Don’t let them.

Your beauty outshines the stars
And even the sky isn’t big enough to hold your heart
You walk around with a brave face, but I can see you’re about to break

There’s a mystery in your eyes
In those places that you go
Yeah, I know it can be so cold
That quiet sadness, you wonder why
It’s the kind that makes you want to cry

But just remember…

It doesn’t matter what they say
You’ll never let them tear you down
That’s not the kind of girl you are
You never let go
Don’t you see that you’re so tough, so brave
You have a lifetime of strength I wish you could know
In a world where everyone is trying to be somebody else
Never be afraid to just be yourself

Yeah, I know there will be people who will try to change you and rearrange you
Until you feel the weight of being so small
They may even take pleasure in watching you fall
But don’t give in to them
If you just remember who you are, you can be like that shooting star
And fly away instead

There’s a mystery in your eyes
In those places that you go
Yeah, I know it can be so cold
That quiet sadness, you wonder why
It’s the kind that makes you want to cry

But just remember…

It doesn’t matter what they say
You’ll never let them tear you down
That’s not the kind of girl you are
You never let go
Don’t you see that you’re so tough, so brave
You have a lifetime of strength I wish you could know
In a world where everyone is trying to be somebody else
Never be afraid to just be yourself

There’s a mystery in your eyes
In those places that you go
Yeah, I know it can be so cold
That quiet sadness, you wonder why
It’s the kind that makes you want to cry

But just remember…
But just remember…
But just remember…

It doesn’t matter what they say
You’ll never let them tear you down
That’s not the kind of girl you are
You never let go
Don’t you see that you’re so tough, so brave
You have a lifetime of strength I wish you could know
In a world where everyone is trying to be somebody else
Never be afraid to just be yourself

I agree that no one should let anyone put them down and make them feel badly about themselves, but I don't agree with the attitude that everyone is perfect exactly the way they are. There are many things that a person can improve on- attitude, social interactions, emotional overreactions- that are positive. It is not negative to change things about yourself that others find difficult to deal with especially if it's a reoccuring comment from people who know you. Maturity is about looking at yourself and accepting that there are things that you can change things you cannot. Immaturity is telling people you are who you are and they just have to deal with it. There is a huge difference.

I never said I was perfect, so I'm not quite sure where that came from…this is just a reminder to not let people who don't matter get you down.

    Halo Melissa,

today I meet a lot of good people and I do feel really good. But yesterday I met a lot of snobbish, irritating, ignorant beings that I feel really really bad. And tomorrow?

I don't know. But I know if I met you someday (like if it is possible to visit your place which is very far far away from here), I would feel good!

Sometimes you have a very long song Melissa but usually I like a couple of few lines and I already feel good.

Perhaps because any words you write just seems to be magically perfect:)
