I’ve said this before, but I don’t know if I buy into the whole online dating scene. It just seems, quite frankly, scary and the recipe for some bad horror movie.
My feelings on the matter notwithstanding, I will admit I’ve thought once or twice about what my profile would look like if I should choose to join one (oh, and another reason I don’t join: I refuse to pay the memebership fee out of principle).
This is exactly what I spend my Saturday afternoon doing, constructing the perfect profile. First, obviously, is photo choice. Choice of photo is key here. You want one that says nice, (sane!) and not the least bit sluttty. Yet you want a photo that’s intriguing, that makes the guy on the other end of the computer screen want to know what stories are behind those green eyes of mine. Remember, a little mystery can be a VERY sexy thing — and you don’t even have to show any cleavage to create that sort of mystery. I decided on this photo, which, I think, conveys I’m a normal girl who won’t end up being a complete psycho upon meeting me, but who, at the same time, isn’t exactly who she appears to be on the surface (MYSTERY, remember?):
As important as the picture is, the About Me section is the place where you can really grab a guy’s attention. It’s important to convey who you are, your personality and of course add a little dash of humor to spice things up. I’m thinking of this as a preliminary autobiography:
I’m a writer and newspaper columnist who has a tendency to think with her words but make decisions with her heart. Truthfully, I’m a bit socially awkward and an absolute dork. I have intense love affairs with good polo shirts, and I love to laugh, burst into song out of the blue, walk in the rain without an umbrella, sit down with a good magazine, mingle and break loose on the dance floor to sappy 80s power ballads.
Really, though, I’m just a sweet girl from the Midwest who is charming, ambitious, family-oriented, humble, happy and a bit shy at times.
Thoughts? Critiques? I’d love to hear what you think….should I really try the whole online dating scene?
