Have you noticed how incredibly hot men seem once they don a wedding ring? I’ve been noticing this more than usual lately, maybe because I’m getting to the “I WANT TO GET MARRIED NOW” stage or maybe because I notice out of sheer boredom or jealously.
Whatever the reason, at least for me, a man’s sexiness increases exponentially when I see a gold or silver band adorn his left hand. It’s not in the dangerous realm of “OMG, you’re married. I want to have an affair with you. Right now.” It’s more of an admiration, a re-affirmation that “Yes, there are still guys out there who are so in love, so devoted to their wives that they want to show said devotion to the whole world. Naysayers be damned!”
Don’t even get me started with those rings that are engraved. Gosh, I’m perspiring just thinking about it. Devotion is definitely the new passion! What could be sexier than a man wholeheartedly devoted to his wife?
And yes, I am fully aware that looks can be deceiving, that plenty of married men still wear rings and have affairs anyway. And yes, I’m aware that a ring in itself doesn’t always signal true, forever and ever love and that you don’t HAVE to sport a ring to prove your devotion.
To all of you, I say: Shut Up! Just let me live in my fairytale castle for a little bit. You should try it. It might just soften your heart a little.
So as Glamour magazine would say. Wedding rings: A MAJOR DO!!!
xoxo,
Mel

As an incredibly hot man that once wore a wedding ring, I can tell you that in my experience, women do, in fact, respond to the ring.
I believe it has to do–at least in part–to “social proof.” Once a woman has verification that a man is desirable to other women, he instantly becomes more attractive.
What do you think?

This is just a wildly stereotypical post, it really is off the rails. The attractiveness dynamic is really strange. Men just look at a woman and our reptilian brain tells us if she is attractive. Women have to worry not only about attracting a man but also determining if he is socially desirable. Sadly the reptilian brain calculation doesn’t work for women. They have to navigate a crazy intra-female competition. I feel sad for the loosers of that competition.

Interesting point, Stephen; I, for one, am not in that category of women. I like a guy because of who he is, not because society says he’s a ‘good’ choice. 🙂

Seeing a ring on a man's finger shows the commitment he has made and I guess it spurs envy on others. Aside from the design of the jewelry, it symbolizes love which is what majority of us long for. Thank you for sharing your insights regarding this topic.

I love that 12 years later this post is still so relevant. I’ve been thinking the same thing for years and finally, because there is nothing else to do while quarantining amid COVID 19, looked this up to see if others feel the same way. Thanks for posting!
